19 Weeks

19 Weeks

Total Weight Gain: 4lbs!  The scale at my gym is just like the one at the doctor's office, so now I have an accurate way to track my weekly weight gain.

Maternity Clothes?  I really need to do some shopping.  One pair of maternity pants isn't cutting it!

Have You Started to Show?  Yes, finally a stranger noticed!  A trainer at the gym very confidently asked me when I was due!  An exciting moment for sure...now I won't worry people just think I have a nice little beer belly.

Stretch Marks?  Nope.

Sleep?  So great, my Snoogle is the best!  I didn't take it to Montana with me this weekend and I will NOT make that mistake again.  I can't imagine life without it.

Best Moment This Week:  Conor getting to feel some strong kicks from baby boy!

Miss Anything?  My balance!  Now that I'm back in the gym, I've realized how bad it has really gotten.  I knew this was a symptom of pregnancy, but didn't realize how much it would affect me!  Not to mention bumping into things all around my house.

Movement?  He is moving all the time!  It's amazing what a difference of just two weeks can make!  He is especially active in the evenings or whenever I'm lying down.  Nighttime is my new favorite time!

Food Cravings:  Blueberries!  Blueberry everything & anything.  This week I found myself eating: blueberry granola, blueberry bagels, blueberry muffins, blueberry scones, & blueberry smoothies.  I found myself wanting blueberry taffy or blueberry ice cream, but I never found any.  Then, I noticed there is now a Blueberry Twisted Tea!  You.Have.To.Be.Kidding.Me.  For those who know me well, you know that twisted tea is my drink of choice.  Of course there had to be some blueberry twisted tea staring me down this week, ugh!

Food Aversions:  My appetite decided to disappear again this week...well except for all things blueberry.  Hoping I'm back to enjoying my meals again soon.

Symptoms:  Feeling great other than my lack of balance.

Staying Active?  I LOVE being back in the gym!  This week I met with a personal trainer who really motivated me to get back into a good routine.  I'm mixing in cardio with some minor weight training.  But no worries, everything is safe for baby and I am watching my heart rate.

Belly Button:  Getting flatter everyday...

Happy or Moody?  Happy, happy, happy!  How can I not be when I feel my baby move throughout the day.  I am already so in love.

Nursery Progress:  Finding boy bedding that I like has proved to be difficult.  I found a great website babybedding.com that lets you design your own.  It's a great site because you can change the color of the crib, the flooring, and the walls to see exactly what it will look like in your nursery.  Now it's just getting Conor & I to agree on something...so many options!  I did a little shopping for baby boy this week and found more cute outfits.  I love seeing the teeny tiny clothes hanging in his closet!  I also brought a frame of Classic Pooh prints from my room in Spokane.  I have had these since I was little and can't wait to get it hung up in the nursery!

Looking Forward to:  Making more progress in the nursery.  I want to get some paint on the walls, but of course that mutual decision make take awhile.  I have decided that one wall will have stripes, and I'm pretty excited about that.

Admiral Overlook

The night Conor & I took our "gender reveal" photos there was a beautiful sunset, so we were not the only people who had pulled over at the Admiral Overlook for some picture taking.  Lucky for us, there was a professional photographer there who asked if he could snap some pictures of us!  He clicked away with his camera, and we exchanged emails so he could send us the pictures once he edited them.  Conor received them this week, so I thought we would share them.  Here are the pictures from Mallick Photography:

18 Weeks

18 Weeks

Total Weight Gain:  4lbs!  Holy moly, I hope that really wasn't all gained in one week!  The scale at my doctor's office is the only consistent scale I've been on, so this is my official weight gain.

Maternity Clothes?  No new clothes this week, but all my shirts are becoming shorter and shorter!  Time to buy a size up in tanks & tees!

Have You Started to Show?  Still no comments from strangers, so I guess this answer should be a "no." Or at least they can't distinguish pregnant from... whatever else they might be thinking.

Stretch Marks? No!  And hopefully I will never be answering "yes."  I've been using some great oil my friend Amanda gave me for Christmas, but that is running out!  Luckily my wonderful husband bought me some Belli Elasticity Oil that I had been wanting!  My friend Christina recommended it; the lavendar smell is amazing!

Sleep?  My Snoogle is now perfectly broken in!  I can't imagine sleeping without it!  It will start traveling with me for sure.  I slept great this week other than the night before our gender scan.

Best Moment This Week:  Finding out the Baby K is a boy!

Miss Anything?  Starting to miss a nice cold cut sandwich...I caved and had one this week.

Movement?  I feel baby boy move everyday!  Little kicks usually when I'm relaxing on the couch or in bed.  Can't wait until they are stronger and Conor can feel them!

Food Cravings:  That grape laffy taffy is still finding its way into my shopping cart!  I also spotted my first Camp Fire girl of the year and of course had to buy two boxes of candy, it's just so good.  And I bet those darn Girl Scouts are just around the corner!

Food Aversions:  Conor made us a lamb dinner for Valentine's Day!  This is usually one of my favorite meals.  I had a bit of a hard time with the smell for some strange reason, but it tasted delicious!  The only way it would have tasted better was if I could chase it down with some wine.  I also bought my favorite loaf of bread (Polsbo) this week and think it smells like dead fish, ugh!  That was disappointing.

Symptoms:  Body feels good and is getting more in tune with baby boy's first little movements.  At our ultrasound they told us he is growing wonderfully.  He is measuring right on schedule with his due date, if not a little bit bigger!

Staying Active?  Walked at Alki on a couple sunny days, and finally made the first step towards joining Allstar Fitness!  They have a 7 day trial membership so I can make sure I like it first.  There's going to be much more exercise in my future!

Belly Button:  Currently "in," but I'm guessing it'll pop out in the next month!

Happy or Moody?  So happy!  Getting to see baby boy move around during the ultrasound was such an incredible feeling.  And feeling his kicks each day make me smile!

Nursery Progress:  Found another sale and ordered some more diapers this week!  The company messed up and sent us two extra; Bonus!  I also received a couple "It's a boy" presents from my friend Mikael & my parents!  Now, there are more clothes hanging up in the nursery closet!  For Christmas, my friend Andrea made me the cutest dividers for my baby clothes.  I will start posting some pictures soon!

Looking Forward to:  Decorating the nursery!  Looking at bedding and paint colors everyday...oh the choices!  I also can't wait til Conor & I decide on a name...

Baby K is a Boy!

Our beautiful baby boy at 17 weeks 4 days!

I had been anxiously awaiting our gender scan since I made the appointment!  Although I think it would be wonderful to have the big surprise come at the birth, I am way too much of a planner to wait!  I took the first appointment of the day which was at 7:30am.  It was perfect since I knew I wouldn't be sleeping much the night before anyway.  I stayed up late reading that night because I was just too excited.  I finally fell asleep after midnight but tossed and turned all night.  I kept thinking my alarm would go off at any moment....but the moments kept passing.  I eventually decided to look at the clock...only 3am, ugh!  I was pretty much awake from 3am on, with baby names running through my head.

I tend to get a little anxiety about being late for things, so I allow for plenty of time.  In Seattle you never know how bad morning traffic is going to be or how long it may take to park.  Nervous we would be late, I was pushing Conor out the door at 6:30am.  There was hardly any traffic and we found street parking right outside the doctor's building...of course!  We arrived before 7am, so the office wasn't even open yet!  I'm lucky Conor is so patient with me, because I'm sure he knew this is exactly what would happen.  The minutes slowly ticked by as we waited for the office lights to turn on!  I was, by far, the first patient in their office that day.

I drank a bottle of apple juice and had some early morning candy (not a hard task for me) to make sure Baby K would be moving around lots during our ultrasound!  And that he was!  It was so amazing to see not only his hands and feet moving like crazy, but his whole body!  After the ultrasound tech took some of her necessary measurements she announced: "There is the penis!"  Conor & I were thrilled; we had been hoping for a boy.  The image was very obvious, no second guessing that this was a baby boy!  He is healthy and measuring right on schedule.  We could not be happier!  I have my actual doctor's appointment tomorrow, and I'm sure I'll get a little more information about our growing baby boy then.

Conor & I have been talking about names for awhile... we have a few favorites but are still undecided.  Can't wait until we choose one and can share it with everyone!

17 Weeks

17 Weeks

Total Weight Gain: 0 lbs (I actually got on a scale this week at my parents house, but the more accurate number will come this week when I go to the doctor).  I'm getting bigger each week so the weight must be coming shortly behind.

Maternity Clothes?  I'm realizing that I need to get some maternity leggings.  I thought my normal ones would do just fine, but that waistband is sure uncomfortable!

Have You Started to Show?  Well I sure think so, but still no strangers have commented.  I told the cashier at Babies R Us that I was pregnant and he said he couldn't tell.  Seriously?!  I was wearing a really fitted shirt!

Stretch Marks?  Nope! :-)

Sleep?  Much better this week!  It has been wonderful.

Best Moment This Week:  Feeling Baby K's first kick!

Miss Anything?  Sleeping on my stomach!

Movement?  At the very end of the week, I finally felt a kick.  I was relaxing on our couch after lunch and some candy and all of sudden felt a "bubble pop" low in my belly!  I can't wait for more movement.

Food Cravings:  This week I've found a new love for grape laffy taffy.  I have found excuses to go to the store just to buy a bar.  Maybe I should just start buying more than one...

Food Aversions:  Meat still isn't at the stop of my list, but it's slowly becoming more appealing.  I had steak (flank steak) for the first time since being pregnant and it went down okay.

Symptoms:  Another great week, body feels wonderful!

Staying Active?  I've been walking & jogging at Alki lots since we've had quite a bit of sun.  Still planning on heading to the gym....Maybe this week it will finally happen!

Belly Button:  Each week it's getting closer and closer to becoming flat.  Still an "innie!"

Happy or Moody?  I was starting to get a little stressed about not feeling the baby, but otherwise it has been such a happy week!

Nursery Progress:  Baby K's library is growing!  This week my brother Ryan & his fiance gave me The Napping House, one of their favorite books.  I've read this once or twice when I worked at DAP in Delaware.  It is so fun to read!  An awesome addition to our small book collection.  I also found our copy of Make Way for Ducklings in a box that had not been unpacked yet.  Since Baby K can hear things starting this week, I might find myself reading through our books! :-)

Looking Forward to:  Finding out the gender on Tuesday!!!

16 Weeks

16 Weeks

Total Weight Gain:  0 lbs (I'm assuming...I don't have a scale in my house at the moment so I didn't get weighed this week.)  Although my appetite is starting to increase so I'm sure the weight gain is coming...

Maternity Clothes?  Still loving the few maternity items I own, but I wish I had a whole wardrobe!  It can be very frustrating to get dressed each day as I realize less and less of my clothes fit.

Have You Started to Show?  Getting bigger each week!  Still haven't had a stranger notice yet.

Stretch Marks?  They are currently staying away.

Sleep?  Not so great this week.  Although, I'm usually not a good sleeper, so this is no surprise.

Best Moment This Week:  Going to a UW basketball game with Conor.  I had not been since we were seniors, and it was so fun to be back.  Also, a completely new experience to not be in student section...with wedding rings on our fingers...and a baby on the way!  I need to purchase a "future husky" t-shirt ASAP!

Miss Anything?  Sushi!  Conor & I went to Umi (one of our favorite sushi spots) and I was very limited on what I could get since it needed to be cooked.  I also had to pass on the lychee martini which I love!

Movement?  Still waiting...and not so patiently.  I just cannot wait for that first little kick!

Food Cravings:  I made Conor "funfetti" cupcakes for his birthday and ate my fair share!  I've also had gumbo on my mind all week, so I drove to multiple grocery stores looking for my favorite brand of mix.  Still haven't found it, but I think I'll settle for something else and make it this week.  I'm also enjoying a significant amount of Frank's hot sauce.  I'm putting it on everything!  I think it's time I start purchasing the two-pack at Costco!

Food Aversions:  Still meat, but it's not grossing me out nearly as much as it was before.

Symptoms:  I feel great!  No complaints this week.

Staying Active?  Joining the gym this weekend, I swear!  Yesterday was such a sunny day that I walked/jogged at Alki Beach.  I am loving West Seattle life and how close we are to Alki.  There were so many moms & babies out; I just can't wait to be taking Baby K there everyday!  I might have over done this little excursion though because I am quite sore today, ugh!

Belly Button:  Still "in" but I swear it's on its way "out"...

Happy or Moody?  So happy 99% of the time!  I did have a small meltdown once this week, but nothing that some tears and husband to calm you down can't fix!

Nursery Progress:  It is so hard not to buy anything, but I am holding out til we know the gender.  Some more diapers arrived this week which I get very excited about.  Cloth diapering is addictive...I want them all in every design and color!

Looking Forward to:  Feeling Baby K move!  I hope this coming week it happens!

We Came Back From Paris With...

We Are Expecting!!!
Baby Keenan will be arriving in July of 2012!

Conor & I are so excited to welcome the new addition to our family!  This has been such a fun and exciting time. We truly are enjoying every minute.  I can't believe how fast the weeks have flown by. Too fast it seems!  I have loved being pregnant!  I guess we will see if I feel the same way when I'm 35 weeks....

15 WEEKS

Total Weight Gain:  0 lbs (as of week 14).  My doctor says this is fairly common in the first three months, but by my next appointment I should have put on some pounds.  I told her it's because I'm not drinking wine anymore! :-)

Maternity Clothes? Yep!  I am slowly acquiring a maternity wardrobe.  I have a few long sleeve t-shirts from Target that I wear constantly because they are so comfy.  I also bought a Bella Band to help keep my non-maternity jeans up as I have been using the hair tie trick to keep them buttoned.  Definitely not as comfortable as my maternity jeans though!  I splurged on a pair of Citizen's and LOVE them!  I've also bought a few things from Motherhood Maternity, but nothing too special.  Most of my regular clothes still fit!

Have You Started to Show? I definitely think so, but no strangers have said anything yet.  Conor looks at my belly lots and will remind me: "You're pregnant!" as if this is a new discovery.  It's very exciting watching the bump grow (albeit gradually at this stage) from week to week.

Stretch Marks? Not yet, and hopefully never!  I have been religious with lotion and rubbing oil on my belly in anticipation for some serious stretching...we'll see if it works!  (Though I've heard that stretch marks tend to be genetic)

Sleep? Not the best through the first trimester.  However, my wonderful husband bought me a Snoogle (maternity pillow) when I was 6 weeks pregnant and that has really helped!  This week I've slept like a baby; it has been so nice, I hope I have turned the corner on this one.

Best Moment This Week: Getting the house painted!  This isn't particularly baby related, but it's all part of my "nesting" phase, which is really coming on strong!  I just want the house neat, organized, and just how we like it.  The nursery will be painted next, once we find out the gender.

Miss Anything?   I obviously miss a nice glass of wine at the end of the day, as well as on occasional Saturday morning cocktail...  But over the months, I've easily adjusted to an alcohol free life! :-)  I also miss my spin class and more vigorous exercise... we'll touch on that later.

Movement? Not yet, but I am anxiously waiting.  Most women feel the first movement between 16-20 weeks, so any day now!

Food Cravings: Fruit & Dairy!  Since the very beginning of my pregnancy I just can't get enough.  I have been going to Jamba Juice on a regular basis and eating lots of ice-cream sandwiches.  I've also had a big thing for donuts lately.  The little cinamon and sugar ones in the Pike Place Market are so good, as is an original Krispy Kreme, with a tall glass of milk of course!

Food Aversions: Meat!  It's been unfortunate, but my entire pregnancy I have not wanted meat.  I still eat it since I need the protein, but it's sure not my favorite thing right now.  I can't even imagine cutting into a steak or chicken breast, so most of the meals I've made contain "shredded" chicken.  For some reason, that makes a BIG difference.  I haven't had much of an appetite, but that is slowly getting better.  I can't wait to be excited about food again.  I used to plan my day around meals and cooking, but lately I have been dreading the chore.

Symptoms:  Every week seems to be a little different.  Early on I was having lots of tailbone pain, but more recently I have had "round ligament pain" (from everything in my abdomen stretching in preparation); nothing too painful thus far.  I was also so cold early in the pregnancy, and then found out I was slightly anemic at my 10 week appointment.  Taking extra iron has made me feel a lot better and I haven't been nearly as cold since starting on the supplements.

Staying Active?  When we were still living in Arizona, I was going to the gym and walking 4 miles a day.  I got a heart rate monitor so as to make sure I stayed under 140bpm.  Since moving, I haven't been as active...oops!  But this week I plan on getting my pregnant butt to a gym here in West Seattle.  I really want to start swimming and might even try some prenatal yoga.

Belly Button:  Still "in" but really starting to look different.  It's much wider and not as deep as before.  If I had to guess right now, I  think it will pop out during my pregnancy.  I'm excited yet weirded out by that thought!

Happy or Moody?  Very happy most of the time!  I do have some occasional random tears, but it's just hard to control with all these hormones.  A crazy guy at Costco banged on the trunk of my car since I didn't stop for him to cross the parking lot (granted he didn't cross at the crosswalk like everyone else I waited for, then jumped out in the middle of the street right after)...HE made me cry.

Nursery Progress: We have a matching crib & changing table thanks to my wonderful parents!  We absolutely love the chocolate brown furniture.  I also have a few baby outfits and blankets that I got for Christmas.  Santa also snuck Sophie the Giraffe into Conor's stocking!  I really want to acquire some great children's books too.  So far we have Mike Mulligan and the Steam Shovel as well as The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  I am anxious to get a glider in the nursery, because I already find myself walking into the room throughout the day just wishing I had somewhere to sit and take it all in.  Conor & I have also decided to cloth diaper our baby, so I am slowly working on that investment.  We got our first shipment this week and I already have them stocked in the dresser.  They are too cute!  I'm so excited to be diapering....less than 6 months to go!

Looking Forward to:  Feeling the baby move!  In the evenings I put my hand on my belly and really focus on it, but nothing yet.  It better happen soon though, 'cause it's all I can think about right now!
