1 Month Old

1 Month Old

Eating: Liam is still an excellent eater!  I am so happy that we have had no issues with breastfeeding, I absolutely love it.  He will also take a bottle of pumped breast milk which is great to leave with someone when Conor & I go on the occasional date night or I have an appointment.  So far I've only been away from Liam twice for just a couple hours.  I like having my little guy with me all the time!  The bad news: he has had a few big throw-up's recently, yuck!  He absolutely covered me in milk a few times...I have some heavy duty burp clothes in the mail as we speak.  :-)

Sleeping: Luckily, we have a pretty great sleeper!  Liam has been giving us a good 4-5 hour stretch (roughly 11pm-4am) almost every night!  Mom & Dad are so proud.  :-)  The best part is that the long stretch of sleep has been in his pack 'n play!  We continue to make great progress on getting him to sleep in there for most of the night although it is sometimes hard for us to put him down alone as we just want to snuggle him.

Diapering: Cloth diapers are still working great!  I'm figuring out the best wash routine for us, and it hasn't been a hassle for me at all.  We are going to be traveling to Montana for a long Labor Day weekend and I can't decide whether or not I want to bring our cloth diapers...  The idea of temporarily going back to disposables is not appealing...but right now I wash diapers every other day, so that sounds like a lot of work while we'll be on "vacation."

Health:We still have a happy & healthy baby!  He seems to be growing like crazy.  No health concerns whatsoever; we haven't had to call our pediatrician once, yay!  I'm anxious to see what he weighs and measures, but his next appointment isn't until he's 2 months old.

Likes: Being outside!  Liam loves the fresh air, plus there is so much for him to look at.  He's also starting to like kicking his little legs and practicing his standing.  As he continues to get stronger, he likes to do more of this "standing;" however, we can only do that for a short while because he is working on his head control.  I have a feeling this guy is going to need a bouncer here in the next couple months.

Outings:  We have been busy!  Liam & I have taken a couple long walks on Alki beach and had some coffee dates at Starbucks together!  Such fun days with my little boy.  Conor & I also took him to the Boeing Classic golf tournament two days in a row.  I love that he is such a good baby, making it easy for us to take him places.  We also braved our first restaurant with him, which was a success!  Liam and I went to the La Leche League meeting where he got his first experience with other babies...he was fascinated by all the people and sounds.

Visitors: Liam has met lots of new friends!  We had a fun dinner at my house with some great family friends, Katie & Abby.  Conor's aunt and uncle, Ann and Steve stopped by to say hello. Our friend Holt from Delaware was in town on business last week so he joined us for dinner & got some Liam time in!  Conor's roommate and good friend Micah came with us to the golf tournament and rode back seat with Liam. (He was introduced to a couple of Liam's favorite songs, next time it's his turn to sing him calm!)  :-) Even Keenan family friend Pam and her sister stopped by the house while she was in town. Lots of action in the Keenan household and we are so grateful for all the generous gifts!

Best Moment:  Our outing to the golf tournament!  Both days were perfectly sunny with a light breeze.  It was fun being together as a family of three and having Dad with us all day.  Conor & I always said we would continue to do the things we love, even with kids... Maybe easier said then done, but we're definitely pulling it off.  This first adventure was not without some quick thinking moments, but overall very successful and proof that Liam will easily adjust to fit our lives and we to his.  I can't wait for all the fun things we'll get to do together as a family! :-)

3 Weeks Old

3 Weeks Old

Eating: Liam still eats constantly, it's his favorite thing to do!  And he is one messy eater!  When packing his diaper bag to leave the house, I need to make sure to have extra clothes for him & me!  I feel like I'm constantly changing my shirt which is covered in milk spots.  I'm hoping he gets a little more efficient as he gets older...

Sleeping: He usually will sleep for a good 4 hour stretch sometime each night!  This makes momma sooo happy!  He's also getting in a few hours in his pack 'n play some nights...other nights he wants nothing to do with it.  I swear he can be sound asleep, but the second his head touches the pack 'n play he is wide awake and ready to eat or play.  We're still working on that routine.

Diapering: I am loving his cloth diapers!  They are oh so soft and very cute on his little bum.  I'm so glad Conor & I made this choice for him.  Right now I'm doing laundry every other day, and I don't mind at all.  Plus, I like not having to buy a pack of disposables every few days!  Can't wait to share a post all about our stash of diapers, what we like best, and my wash routine!  I encourage anyone with a baby to really consider this option!

Health: Liam recently had a pediatrician appointment at 2 1/2 weeks old.  He is perfectly healthy; our doctor was very impressed with his weight gain, especially since I exclusively breastfeed him.  Here are his stats...  9 lbs (up 10% from his birth weight), 22 1/2 inches long (100th percentile!!), 37 cm head.  Our baby boy is so long & lean!

Likes: Showers!  Both Conor & I have taken him into the shower with us for a quick rinse off'.  It just seems so much easier than getting his little tub out and he loves being held against us with the warm water running all over him.  And it's the cutest thing ever to see him in there!  He also loves when we sing to him!  Sometimes it will immediately calm him down, even when he's really gotten himself worked up about something.  The other day I was trying to take a shower while he slept in his car seat in the bathroom with me...  He woke up when I'm was almost finished, so to keep him calm I sang him a couple rounds of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!  He was entertained by his momma for a good few minutes with that! :-)

Outings:  No exciting outings this week; just a few grocery stores and some random errands.  Liam is such a looker that he attracts attention from all sorts of strangers!  My trip to Costco took much longer than normal because everyone kept stopping me to oogle the little man and ask all sorts of questions about him.  I love showing him off though, so I didn't really mind!

Visitors: This week, my friend Haley was back in Seattle for a visit and to take Liam's newborn photos!  We had so much fun playing with him around the house, and then we went back to Discovery Park to get some more pictures.  I cannot wait to see them!  I'm pretty sure Haley fell in love with our little boy....I think Liam put the pressure on her to get started on her own family! :-)  To finish up a wonderful weekend, my good friend Chris Poppy came over for Sunday afternoon drinks and to meet Liam!

Best Moment:  It is so hard to pick a best moment each week...  However, each day his smiles are getting bigger and each one puts even bigger smile on my face!  I love each & every one...they are all the best!

More of the Bump!

I now have a CD with all the photos from my maternity session!  Conor & I have had fun looking through all of them and trying to choose which ones we want to frame and put up in Liam's nursery.  There are so many options because they are all wonderful!  It makes me miss my bump...just a little bit!  Although, having Liam in my arms is so much better!  While perusing all the photos, I couldn't help myself from sharing more of them!  Enjoy these pictures taken by the extremely talented Haley Sorbel from Haley Sierra Weddings:

2 Weeks Old

2 Weeks Old

Eating: Liam is still a breastfeeding champion! He eats all the time, so he must be growing big & strong! I on the other hand need to get more snack foods in the house... I don't always have time to make myself a meal, so I need some easy foods I can quickly grab and take to the couch for our marathon nursing sessions. When my mom visited, she left me with three batches of cookies (snicker doodle, ginger snaps, & oatmeal chocolate chip/raisin) which have been wonderful to have on hand! I can't live off cookies forever though... :-)

Sleeping: His lambie arrived this week which has made his pack 'n play a little more enticing! Right now, I'm trying to put Liam in it for the first part of the night. Then when he wakes for his first feeding/diaper change I keep him in bed with us. Both mom & baby tend to doze off while he's eating, so he never quite makes it back into the pack 'n play just yet. This is fine with us; both Conor & I love snuggling with him!

Diapering: His cord fell off on Saturday so we are officially in cloth diapers!!! It was such an easy transition, no different for me than disposables. So far he's been in Dinkledooz, Rumparooz, Bum Genius, & Charlie Banana. We've only had a few leaks, and I'm attributing that to his little legs... They don't fit perfect yet, but are still usable. And the best part: no blowouts!!! Once I've been cloth diapering for awhile, I'll do a post all about it and which ones are working best for us.

Health: Liam is healthy as can be! I'm looking forward to his pediatrician appointment on Thursday; it will be fun to see how much he has grown!

Likes: Tummy time! He has great head control already! He's also loving his swing even more now that I've turned it so he can look out the window! And I think he's starting to like bath time... The first few times he cried the entire time, but now he stays calm and seems to like being sprayed with the warm water. I'm hoping he starts to love it so bath time can become a part of our nightly routine!

Outings: The little man made his first trip to Nordstrom!... We had a fun day of shopping with Nana, and he actually stayed awake most of the time. I loved that Nordstrom had a "mother's room" where I could easily nurse & change him. I see many future trips back there in our future! :-) He also made a couple visits to my favorite bakery, where he slept and never made a peep! It has been so easy to take him out, I love it. My doctor even commented on how impressed she was that I got Liam & I out of the house all by myself and arrived on time to my appointment! That was a little confidence booster! She says I'm such a calm person...hmmm, not exactly the word I would use to describe myself, but I'll take it!

Visitors: This week Liam had a chance to meet my friend Karina! She came over at the perfect time, because Liam was awake & very alert for her! He also met my friend Hillary, who he quickly greeted by peeing on her. Oops, Hillary was a victim of one of the leaky diapers!

Best Moment: I have to say, putting him in his first cloth diaper! Not only are they adorable on his little bum, they are oh so soft! I'm sure he loves them just as much as I do!  Other favorite moments:  seeing Conor & Liam together...warms my heart! ;-)

1 Week Old

1 Week Old

First of all, thank you to everyone for your kind wishes, thoughts, & prayers for our family!  There has been an overwhelming amount of love for us and little Liam.  We are trying to touch base with all our family & friends as much as possible, but life is so busy now! :-)

I'm a few days behind on blogging, but this picture was taken when Liam was exactly 1 week old!  He is changing so quickly right now; I want to capture every single moment!  I've had lots of questions on whether or not I will keep up this blog...  As of right now, my plan is to blog weeks 1-4 and from then on out do every month.  I also plan on doing a few postpartum posts as I get my body back into shape!

Eating:  Breastfeeding has been going great for Liam & I since the day he was born!  This is what I was most excited about when I was pregnant, so I am thrilled that it has come easily to both him and me! :-)

Sleeping:  Liam is an excellent sleeper...when in our arms!  Right now, we have a pack 'n play next to our bed (since his nursery is upstairs), but he has only slept in there a handful of hours.  I ordered a lambskin which should be delivered soon; I'm hoping this will make the pack 'n play a little more cozy and inviting for him.  In the meantime, he's nursing so often that he falls asleep in my arms most nights.  Dad takes his turn snuggling the little man too and he and Liam sleep so soundly together!

Diapering:  We are still waiting for Liam's cord to fall off so we can start cloth diapering.  He also might need to get just a little bit bigger since I only bought one size diapers.  Until then, we are unfortunately using newborn disposables.  In hind sight, I wish I had bought newborn cloth diapers...because he goes through them so often and because I want to get started right away! Maybe next time around.  ;-)

Health:  We went to the pediatrician when Liam was 3 days old for a check-up, and he was healthy as can be except for a very slight jaundice that was developing.  The doctor told us to keep an eye on it and call them the next day.  On day 4 we went back to the doctor, and he was looking a little better already, phew!  Added bonus: he put on 5 ounces in one day (my milk came in that night) and he was only 2 ounces shy of his birth weight!  Wow my little boy is growing fast!  Next appointment isn't until he's 2 weeks.

Likes:  We are still getting to know Liam, but we have figure out a few things already.  He loves his swing and sleeps great in there...it doesn't even need to be swinging most of the time!  :-)  He likes being swaddled as long as his hands are out and have a little bit of freedom.  And I just know that he loves Conor & I so much already!  The feeling is mutual!!! Conor adds that he really seems to like noisily dirtying a freshly replaced diaper... that little rascal! We have been pulling double-duty at times these first few days.

Outings:  He has been a busy boy in his first week of life!  He's already made his first trip to Costco (slept through it), Ikea (slept through it), and the grocery store (slept through it).  He's been so easy to take out of the house, I'm hoping he keeps this up!

Visitors:  Friends, family, & neighbors have all been by to see the little guy.  My parents were in town for his birth, so Liam got to meet Nana & Pops right away!  A few days later he met our good friends The Tinkers and Mikael & Arza.  There has been lots of toasting with champagne to celebrate... his mom is happy! :-)  Our college friend Jamie also made his way over to meet Liam one evening and brought delicious enchiladas!  We've even had a couple neighbors stop by.  Liam would like to send out a very special thanks to all those who have brought dinner his mom and dad!!!  It is much appreciated and has made our days just a little bit easier. We very much encourage all those in town to give us a call if they want to come by and meet our little sweetheart! We love having visitors and hope to have the opportunity to introduce Liam to each of you soon.

Best Moment:  Waking up together on a Saturday morning with nothing to do other than snuggle our little one!  We stayed in bed for a few hours just watching Liam and his different expressions...trying to soak in every little bit of him.  He's usually pretty alert in the mornings so it's my favorite time of the day with him!  We even continued on the tradition of pancake Saturday!
