A Boy's Mom

While I know that I will have a little girl, a mini me, someday... I am very much enjoying being a boy's mom! However, that is not to say that it didn't come with a learning curve!  Conor & I "tried" (if you believe in that sort of thing) for a boy, so we were thrilled on Valentine's Day 2012 when we found out that Baby K was, in fact, a boy!
Since then, I have completely fallen in love with my little boy!  He is full of energy & spunk and just the right amount of curiosity! He also has this tender side which shows through in how much he loves snuggling and being close to his mamas heartbeat.  Really close.  All night long close.  Still-likes-to-sleep-on-top-of-my-chest-at-19-months-old close.

I was quite the tomboy growing up, so I thought I had a bit of advantage when it came to raising boys!  I was a ninja turtle (Leonardo was my fav) - roll in the mud - scrappy football kind of tomboy.  However, cars, tools, & such were not my thing.  So here I am as a boy's mom, trying my best to learn about all the different types of construction equipment out there!  And there is a lot!  Thank goodness for Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site breaking it down for me a bit!

I'm perfecting how to draw a pickup truck (that's a headlight on the front), which is still a work in progress.  I'm working on my sounds for cars, trains, & airplanes.  I even had Conor give me a brief lesson in pretend play with Liam's workbench...seriously!  I can barely identify the tools in our own toolbox!  But I love it!  I love it all!

I love watching Liam's eyes light up each time he hears the garbage truck or an airplane.  When we see the Trax train go by near our neighborhood he gets just as excited about it each and every time.  His excitement over the smallest of things has brought me so much joy!  While shoveling dirt (and inevitably getting it stuck under my finger nails) does not top my favorite things list, it can sometimes be the highlight of my day with him.

I can't wait to see what adventures lie ahead for me and my little boy!  I look forward to our bond continuing to grow and helping him become a loving man (man...eeek)!  And when he's in high school, I will be anxiously waiting for those mother & son dances!  Liam already has pretty awesome dance moves, so I better start practicing!

The best is yet to come!

  2. My sister has a boy one month older than my little girl and the differences are night and day. He is ALL BOY, much like Liam. I love to watch him ever so often to love on him and all the things that make him special and unique!

  3. I love the boy stuff too, but I am so the opposite of you! I have always been girly-girl and was hoping for a baby girl. But this little boy came along and stole my heart and now I love tractors and dirt too! :)
