Finn: 5 Months Old

He's a big guy.  This we know.  He has this neck roll in the back that I'm a bit in love with.  I can already picture him in football pads and a helmet!  He found his voice this month, and loves to make this cute little high pitched yell.  Sometimes it's hard to tell if it's a happy sound or not.  His hair is an amazing bit of fuzziness that sticks straight up. And the big news of the month is that he rolled over for the first time, AND starting sitting!  He did this a couple weeks before Liam did, which I am attributing to the chubbiness.  He has a nice little platform to work on that balance with!

Stats:  Simply big.  I cannot wait to have some updated numbers on him next month.  I swear he is off the charts!  While I somewhat wish I had a tiny little baby, I love seeing how strong & healthy he is growing!

Eating: We are still holding off on anything other than breastmilk until at least the 6 month mark.  However, Finn is a mouthy little one and is trying to put all the things in his mouth right now.  Hopefully this means he will take to foods with a bit more enthusiasm than Liam!

Sleeping:  I knew it was coming.  I called it.  I was prepared.  The 4 month sleep regression hit.  It came on slowly, but by 4.5 months Finn was done with sleeping through the night.  He now wakes about 2-3 times which I consider a wildly successful night!  At this age, Liam was already waking every 2 hours or less, so perhaps Finn won't be quite so wakeful.  I'm holding on to just a bit of hope with that!  For naps, he has settled into a bit of a pattern.  He takes three most days: the first is in the sling for whatever activity we are out & about with Liam for.  The second is during Liam's nap (thank goodness for that).  And the third usually  happens shortly after Conor gets  home from work.  He prefers to be in the sling or nursing in bed for his naps, but that's not always possible.  I'm pretty relaxed about it all; you have to be with baby #2!

Health: Perfect!  He is one strong boy!

Likes: Anything that is not technically a "toy."  Big brother!  I always heard about how much babies watch their older siblings, but it is still incredible to witness it with my boys.  Finn is infatuated with Liam.  Watching their daily interactions is amazing.  I can see their relationship growing & developing with each passing day.  Finn is also still favoring his Daddy and seems to perhaps just like being held by men in general.

Mama update:  Those last 7lbs haven't gone anywhere.  This is not good as the holiday season quickly approaches....

I feel like we are officially out of the infant stage.  Finn now wants to be engaged & entertained at all times.  He no longer just watches the world go by; he wants to be involved!  He keeps me plenty busy.  With each passing day, I get to know just a bit more and boy do I love him so deeply!

  2. He is reminding me so much of Noah as a baby (since he was a chubby baby too)! Sorry to hear the sleep regression has hit, but at least it's better than every 2 hours! Isn't it amazing how something doesn't seem as bad when you've experienced much worse. I laugh when I have friends who complain about their kid waking once a night... While I was wishing for only one wake up!

  5. He is just so big and so cute! I hope that sleep goes back to normal soon! It's not fun at all. Could reducing the length of his naps helps with helping him stay asleep through the night? When Sophie cut out her second nap she slept longer at night than she had before.

  15. What a cutie! Love that he's sitting up and rolled over! He just wants to be doing whatever big brother is doing... he'll probably crawl and walk before Liam did as well. Don't they always say that about the second one? What an adorable little chunker :)
