Nana & Pops, the October Visit

We have been seeing a whole lot of my parents since Finn was born, and I am just loving it!!!  They typically make a visit in October when the temperatures are still fairly warm, and the leaves are just starting to change.  It's a wonderful time to be in Utah!  Conor had another week long business trip, so my mom came out a bit early to help me with the boys.  And thank goodness she did...

Liam has been extra challenging lately (hello threes!).  I consider myself to have plenty of patience (it's one of my better mom qualities), but regardless, Liam still manages to drain me by the end of the day.  The boys & I worked Nana far too hard!  As usual, she cooked, she cleaned.  Diapered, bathed, & dressed the boys.  Read books, drove cars, colored.  And even helped handle a meltdown or two.  She accepted the wide awake baby at 6:30am, so that I could get some extra sleep with the toddler who now insists upon sleeping sideways in his bed.  And at the end of each day, she was my confidant and wine drinking buddy.  It was quite the week!

Pops arrived in Utah the same evening that Conor flew back home.  Our long weekend was filled with a few tourist activities, a wee bit of hiking, some shopping, and plenty of eating & drinking.  We sipped on our first finished batch of home brewed cider (a huge success) as well as Moscow Mules made with some locally made ginger beer straight from the tap (it was life changing!).  Nana read a ridiculous amount of Curious George books, and Pops helped Liam begin to perfect his spiral with the football.

This visit I made a big effort to take plenty of pictures of Nana & Pops with my boys.  I know that I will only treasure these photos more as the years pass us by.  But what I really need to get better about is taking videos.  Not just short clips on my iPhone here or there, but actually home movies.  My dad was always so good about pulling out his massive video camera.  I love being able to look back and instantly remember a certain place & time.  Anyway, here's a little photo overload of their visit.

I'm so happy that our visits have been so frequent lately.  Finn has never had stranger danger with either of my parents, and I really want it to stay that way.  We plan to head up to the northwest sometime over the holiday season, so I know it won't be too long before we are all together again!
And may I just say, they are about the cutest Nana & Pops ever!

  2. That's so great you've been able to plan so many visits even though you guys live far away! Your mom is the best... Sounds like how I feel about my mom :). My goal this year was to take more videos and I've definitely gotten better. I just made a 3rd year video for Noah's birthday and was so glad to have more videos to include in it. Especially now that he's talking more and has such a personality. These are the times we will quickly forget but always want to remember :)

  3. Your parents really are adorable! You can just feel the love through the photos. I'm the same way - I try to take video once a month or so on our actual video camera. I love being able to look back in those moments in time!

  5. So wonderful your parents are able to visit so often. Y'all are such a sweet looking family and your mom sounds divinely amazing. I can't wait to have a bond with my mom when I have kids, it's something I'm looking forward to, even though we aren't quite there yet.

  7. What a beautiful family! Time with your parents & grandparents is so special and I am glad you all are getting to have that. Threes were so much harder than the twos! I keep telling myself that I need to get better about taking family videos. We have photos galore, but not many videos at all. I have got to work on that. These are gorgeous photos!!!

  8. You guys are a great looking family!! How fun to get more time in together, and always such great cocktails of choice. ;) Funny you mention, I had the same thought the other day about videos - we have enough photos to gag a horse, but I know they'll want to see themselves LIVE someday of how they were when they were little, need to work on that. Also, please share any tips that have worked for you, our 3-year old has been giving us a run for our money too.. Whew.

    2. What camera do you have? I just don't have the patience to learn all the settings and adjust them etc. when I have no idea what I'm doing!

    3. I have a Canon Rebel SL1. It's lighter and supposed to fit in a woman's hand better. There is a bit of a learning curve, but you can always shoot in auto until you have a chance to play with it and figure out the settings.

  12. Aww! The pictures are so sweet! I love how you can look at a picture and remember every feeling and what you did at that moment. It's amazing when the grandparents come to visit and what you can get done with their help. Glad you had a great visit!

  13. Your parents are just absolutely adorable!! Love all of the pictures. I must admit, your post makes me kind of homesick to see my family and a bit jealous of how often you have gotten to see your's this season. Your mom was basically a rockstar while in town! So nice that she could come in to help out. Do you have a tripod that y'all used for the family picture?

  14. Your family is precious, every single one of you have a contagious smile! I can only imagine the fun and laughter that takes place when you're together! Yum, fresh ginger beer for your Moscow Mules?! These have become our favorite drink this fall! Xo, Stephanie
