Santa Photos 2015

We had our annual Santa photos last week, and I was a little bummed with how they turned out.  Alright, I was actually quite upset; I like to get upset over absolutely ridiculous things.  Emotions were running high for me.  Finn's 1st tooth popped up, and let's just say that Finn is no fan of teething.  Typically he has the sweetest demeanor and is a rather pleasant baby, minimal crying or fussing.  But last week was filled with lots of screaming & practically no sleep.  So this mama also shed some tears and didn't know what to do with all the sleep deprivation...hence, emotional me.  So back to Santa photos...

If you've been reading here for long,  you know that we have a pretty awesome Santa set up here in Utah.  Instead of scaring your kids with some stranger, you yourself dress up as Santa.  These photos are always a bit untraditional, but I love that aspect.  Conor always dresses as Santa, and I help the photographer to get smiles out of the boys.  Liam was into it as always, but Finn was having a tough time with life.  He had some red, watery eyes (of course he has a cold too) and has been extra sensitive since his new tooth arrived  Regardless, my boys are adorable, and so they did not disappoint.  I love how their sweet little faces were captured.  So I what was I possibly upset about?...  The set (sloppy presents & odd colors) as well as how the photos were edited (overexposed).  However, now that a few days have passed (and I have realized how silly I was being), I have come to love them!

These photos are always so special.  Seeing the boys in their matching PJs with the twinkle of Santa in their eyes!  Nothing better!  And then of course, they do have an "actual" Santa on hand, so the kids can still tell them what they want for Christmas.  Liam was slightly weary but into it.  He told me that he very quietly told Santa his Christmas list, but really I think he was just in it for the candy cane.  Finn held it together briefly and then was all tears.  Really this snap says it all!

Santa told Liam to check on his reindeer just as he was walking away, and the look on Liam's face was priceless.  So much wonder, excitement, & magic.  There were two reindeer outside for us to watch, which had Liam in awe.  His desire to believe in it all is incredible.  I am loving this season and experiencing it all right along with him!

  1. I loved the photo you posted yesterday and would never have known you weren't happy. While I now noticed the messy bow on the gift, I doubt I would have if you didn't mention it. Your kids are so cute, that's all your eye goes to! I still love the concept of these photos! And Liam's expression on the "actual" Santa reminds me exactly of Noah's feeling about Santa!

  4. The beauty of Santa pictures is that they're never perfect. And don't need to be! It so out of your hands that you have to roll with what they give you (kids AND photographer!). But those pictures are still PERFECTION and you'll look back on them in 5 years and not see anything but Finns first Christmas!

  6. Oh Laura these are just magical! I love seeing the photos of all the priceless reactions. Our little guy, who's demeanor is usually great, is not having it with sitting on a stranger's lap this year! Hoping for smiles next year.

  9. What magical pictures. I can totally see wanting something and then having someone not do what you want [ie the set] and having very little sleep culminating in a bit of emotional overload. I think all the pictures are fabulous and seem to capture the magic of Christmas. How fun Liam is in such a fun stage.

  12. Every year I love this concept---i think it would go over much better than our visits to santa have gone---always screaming and refusal to be near him! ha! I get that the green present wasn't exactly perfect but like others said, we wouldn't even notice it if you didn't point it out! They are great pictures of this memory.

  13. Such a fun concept!! The boys are plain adorable and make them perfect. SO magical!! :) As I pulled out some pics of Santa visits from a few years ago, I had a flood of emotions from 'that day' or something that was going on in our life 'at that time', while I remembered those feelings/emotions, little details, and just where we were at that particular phase of life.. The things that stand out are the sweet faces in the pics, even if overexposed. ;) Liam's face in the last pic is adorable..!! :)

  17. aww, these photos are precious. Love the one of them looking up at Santa. That is awesome that the parents get to dress in the Santa costume! I'm sure that help a whole lot of kids not scream their heads off. Love that they are both looking slightly skeptical in the last picture. Hah :)
