'Tis the Season

Per tradition, we jumped right into Christmas festivities the day after Thanksgiving!  With this being our 3rd Christmas in Utah, we finally know what we're doing in the Christmas tree department.  I'm sure Conor was thanking his lucky stars that I didn't make him take me to 4+ tree farms this year.  I have finally come to terms with the fact that Utah just does not grow decent Christmas trees.  It's the high desert, and much to dry.  So instead, we pay the big bucks to have some fancy noble fir that is shipped in from Oregon.  But of course I still want that "farm" experience, so I found a farm with a little Christmas tree lot.  Boom!

Did we buy the biggest one they had?  Sure did.  Was it our most expensive tree ever?  Yep!  She's a beautiful 10 footer, with only about a centimeter between the tip of the star and our ceiling.  I'll try to share some pictures soon, but currently I am working on my Christmas tree photography.  Expect an overload of our tree & the boys in their Christmas jammies over the next month!  Liam loved decorating and put all the ornaments at the exact same height (his eye level).  I, of course, redecorated it later that night, and still switch up some ornaments that just don't seem quite right at least a couple times a day.  Finn can be found grabbing at a low hanging branch and swiping at an ornament or two. Having two kids has already made this Christmas sweeter than any one before!

We added a fresh garland to our mantle, as well as the railings on our front porch.  They have a much more rustic feel, but I love having fresh greens and the scent that comes with them.  We also have a bunch of fresh wreaths, and even one for the front of my car.  Yes, I am that mom.  I love being that mom!

Over the weekend we had a little snowstorm making things feel all the more festive!  Bundling up both boys is exhausting but so worth it.  Liam is obsessed with shoveling, while Finn just sits happily and wonders why he doesn't have access to his hands.  Last year was an incredibly dry winter in Utah, so I am praying to the snow gods that we do not have a repeat of that.  I seriously check the weather at least twice a day to see if we have any potential storms rolling through.  There can never be too much snow in my opinion!

Cheers to the most wonderful time of the year!

  1. Girl. I have a wreath on my car too! I am totally that mom right there along with you:) At least we aren't the ones with the reindeer antlers and rudolph noses on the front, lol:) Looking forward to seeing your pictures and getting some inspiration for some photos of my own!

  2. How fun! While I love the smell of fresh, we are a "fake" family. Artificial tree, garland on mantel and railings, and wreaths. I like to decorate early and prefer less cleanup. But I have to admit there is something nice about the real deal. Can't wait to see your tree photos! I need to start practicing too!

  3. As I was pulling all our Christmas decorations out the day after Thanksgiving our neighbor told me "wow you really waste no time!".. nope haha :) Love that you hunted down a perfect tree. I get REALLY bad allergies and our Christmas tree made me feel like I was dying last year, so we went with fake this year. But we may just visit a tree farm too, just for the experience.

  6. I love that you cut down your own tree. I wish we could do that. I grew up with my parents selling Christmas tress, so fake ones were a no no, but Drew is allergic, so we have to have a fake one. Makes me sad. I'd love to decorate my car, but my hubby says absolutely not. He's a scrooge. :)

  9. Yay for a tree! Can't wait to see pictures of it! And I totally agree - if it's going to be cold, at least bring on the snow!

  10. Oh, I love this!! I can't wait to see all the beautiful photos you take this year! Our tree is the darkest, most dreary place in our house with terrible lighting, so I haven't been able to ever get good photos of it. One of these days we're going to move out of our batcave and get a house with beautiful natural light.

  12. A ten foot tree? I am so jealous!!! Surprisingly, my area lacks a good Christmas tree farm. Like where they actually grow them instead of shipping them in from actual farms. We still visit the ‘tree-farm’ even though we don’t buy a tree there. It’s just something we love to do this time of year. These photos are great and I can’t wait to see the tree photos you’re working on!! Ps – I am also jealous of the snow. We never get any here in Texas. And when we do it’s usually just ice that they are calling snow! Ha.

  14. I've decided I need some 'real' green in the house this year, might just be a centerpiece or something, but I need it!! Can't wait to see more of your tree (and of course the cutest Keenan bros)!!

  15. This is the best!!! I'm so much more excited than normal this year because of having two kiddos! I love the idea of having real trees & garlands all around the house. Unfortunately, my allergies just can't handle it the constant exposure. We are hoping to go to a Christmas Tree farm next weekend though!!! So very excited.
