Today, Conor joined me in the 30's. His birthday celebration was nearly as crazy of a time as mine. (Sarcasm, so much sarcasm). As crazy as one can get when your baby insists upon being in bed promptly at 7pm. Regardless, the boys & I celebrated the most special man in our lives! Liam told me exactly what to say in the birthday card: It started off strong with "Dear Daddy, Happy Birthday. Went on some crazy tangents from there, and ended with "drink his beer." Slightly incoherent, completely adorable. We also had big plans to make cupcakes and try out a new dairy free frosting. Well today was a bit of a rough one around our house, and while the cupcakes were baked (only burned the second batch slightly), the frosting has yet to be made. Perhaps I'll get that second wind just before midnight and whip some up just as one of my kids will surely wake up crying and beckon me to bed. For now, some naked cupcakes cover my countertops... growing the slightest bit stale with each passing hour.
Back to the celebrating... With Finn being nearly 9 months old, we decided to attempt our first date night without him. A few of my mama friends have such a special bond with him, especially since they seem him nearly every morning, so I surprisingly felt comfortable leaving him for a short bit. I didn't leave Liam with anyone other than my mom until he was 18 months old, but then again I didn't have the same women who are such a huge part of my life now, back then. Anywhoo, Finn didn't have the best day today. Minimal napping and some possible teething left him a bit unpredictable and un-Finnlike. Regardless, Conor & I had one hour of a slow blissful meal together. We ate with all the super old people at 5:30pm; happy hour is the new dinner hour. Finn didn't last long, so that hour came and left far too quickly. Then I dashed out of the restaurant to get my baby boy back in my arms as quickly as I could. But I'm okay with this. It is such a short stage of life. I love that my babies need me and know there will be plenty of time for late night shenanigans and kid-free vacations in the future. I plan on our 40th birthday celebrations being epic!
But enough blabbing about me and the baby and all the emotions with that. Today is really about Conor. 11 years ago I met the boy from Montana with an earring and puka shell necklace. He had a bright yellow flip phone and knew how to set up my computer. Not many people find their husband the first day spent at college. So happy I snatched him up immediately! He's my best friend, my adventurer. He's the most amazing Father; my true partner in parenthood. I cannot wait to see what this next decade holds for he and I.
