Nana & Pops

I talk about my family enough that everyone knows how much I love them & miss them.  And really, I would move right door to them if that was an option.  So it was especially hard to go from Christmas to April without seeing them.  Longest stretch of time we have been apart.  Ever!  I had been anxiously waiting for this visit for months!!!

We had one really awesome first day with my mom.  She never stopped moving and worked too hard as usual.  She keeps the dishes done, house clean, kids fed & bathed, and even lets me nap in the afternoon.  Nana filled days are well rested & clean to say the least.  The boys adore her just as much as I do.  But all the sweetness was spoiled by the fact that she caught the stomach flu that had traveled through our family just the week before.  I felt awful about it.  So for once, the boys & I had the opportunity to take care of our sweet Nana and give back to her a bit.  And by take care of her, I mean they crawled all over bed multiple times a day just to "check" on her.  I'm sure she loved that.  Since she was so sick for a few days, many shopping trips, lunches, & happy hours were cancelled.  It was a bit of let down that put me in a funk for a bit.  It just didn't seem fair!

Thankfully, it was a relatively quick bug, and she recovered right around when my Dad flew in to join her for a long weekend.   Usually our family is constantly on the go, so we took the weekend full of gorgeous weather to just relax.  We brunched as usual and feasted like royalty.  And of course there were cocktails, of the morning and evening variety.  Lawn games, bike rides, puzzles, & books.  Liam kept both Nana & Pops busy with his favorite things; Finn was just pumped for more snuggles, and someone new to chase him up the stairs.  No stranger danger at all, which surprised me and warmed my little heart.

Aside from the sickness, it was one of the loveliest weekends with my parents.  However, I'm still demanding a do over due to the days we lost while my mom was so ill.  I've already convinced her to come back in May while Conor is away in Europe.  A whole work week filled with Nana, and it's only a handful of weeks away!  I can hardly wait!!!

And a very special birthday wish to my Dad who turned 66 this visit!
He is still as witty as ever and has no problem keeping up with the littlest boys of the family.
Cheers to many more years Dad!

  2. First. You have the cutest family. And second. Do-over FOR SURE. I mean if we as moms aren't allowed to get sick there's no way our moms are allowed. Right?

  4. Yay for parents coming to visit. I know what you mean about hating how far they are and that you can't see them all of the time. I would live next to my parents if I could too. We are so close. So sorry your mom got sick, but it sounds like you guys had a great visit overall. So glad she is coming back soon. YAY!

  15. How cute are your parents?!? So sorry your mom caught the stomach bug...but glad she's coming back in May! Being away from family is so tough, but it's also nice to have them with you 24/7 when they're in town. Now that we're back in Kansas I sometimes wish my parents would stay all weekend at our house and spend the night ;)
