How I Survive Business Trips

In early September Conor had his longest business trip ever... 11 days!!!  So I did what I always do and flew home.  My parents helped me keep my sanity while the boys & I missed Conor like crazy.  I'm always so thankful for how hands on they are with the boys!  And all the home cooked meals & the laundry that magically takes care of itself.  The baths that are given, the coffee delivered, and the bottoms wiped so that I may sneak in a few extra minutes of sleep.  Nana & Pops take such good care of us!

This trip was also full of plenty of cousin time for Liam.  My brother & his family joined us for dinner three of the nights I was home.  I love being around my parents same kitchen table with my brother once again.  Many special moments were had.  Seeing Pops kick around a soccer ball in the backyard.  Lowering the basketball hoop for the toddlers and teaching them H-O-R-S-E; a game that my brother & I spent countless hours playing together.  Watching the cousins play with the dollhouse that my grandpa built for me.  It was simply some of the best family time I have had.

While home, I took the opportunity to go apple picking at one of my favorite farms.  We had big plans for tons of baking at the lake house, so we let the kids go a little crazy on the picking.  At times, I'm not sure we even knew what variety we were picking, but when it comes to baking, it doesn't really matter all that much.  My go-to apple recipes are The Pioneer Woman's Apple Sauce, Smitten Kitchen's Apple Pie, and make sure to use Four and Twenty Blackbird's (all butter) Pie Crust.  Homemade applesauce is always, always worth it!

And then the lake!  Oh the lake!  A place where I feel my body instantly relax as soon as I arrive.  Aside from one rainy day (when we did all the baking), we had gorgeous weather.  Boat rides.  Digging in the forest sandbox.  Tree house climbing.  Slug finding.  Swinging.  Flower & vegetable picking.  Just so much time outside in all the beautiful sunshine!  There really is no place I would rather be.

This trip home was really just a dream.  We missed Conor terribly, and I was so ready to have my partner in parenthood back, but it went as well as it possibly could have.  Regardless, I told him he's never allowed to leave us for that long again.  He may have a trip to Europe sometime before the year is over, so I may be able to sneak in another trip home.  I can't wait!

  9. Next time B has to be away for work, I am TOTALLY coming to your parents house too;) What a dream! Love it! I know it's not easy to have hubs away, leaving you with the kiddos (right there with ya, sister!) but I'm glad you were able to get away and get some help while he was gone. Those boys are just too sweet, and your parents are the bees knees (don't know where that came from but it seemed appropriate, so I'm going with it:)
