Spring in Utah

Seasons can be a fickle little thing here.  Especially Spring.  We're teased with 70+ degree temps in March, but often have a mid April snow fall.  It used to drive me crazy (what will I wear?!), but this year I have totally embraced it.  I love that we can hike in the morning, and ski in the afternoon.  Be in our swim suits (at least the boys) and then our ski suits.
Whenever I think of Spring officially being here, I think of all the trees in bloom around the Capitol building.  It's just something so signature about Utah.  The trees bloomed pretty early this year, and of course just barely ahead of a week's worth of rain.  I somehow convinced Conor that we needed to jet up to the Capitol on a whim last Friday night to picnic, and... possibly, maybe, I just might happen to bring my camera, so we can take some pictures.  Maybe.  I know I've already slathered the 'gram with many of these photos.  But there's some fresh ones too!  The lighting was perfect, and the evening went just as I had hoped.  Good family time with my boys and some photos that I am really damn proud of.

While part of me is so ready for summer to actually be here (the icecream truck already seems to think so), I'm not ready to give up the spring skiing.  So fresh blooms one day, the snowy slopes the next.  Each time we go up, Finn takes to it more & more.  Also with each visit, my snow pants get snugger & snugger, and this time... there was no buttoning them!  For really the first time, we let Finn out far on the leashes, and he loved that taste of freedom!  It was the first time that we skied the entire afternoon as a family, fitting in 4 long runs in 1.5 hours.  Quite impressive for our little, not quite 2 year old.  As to finish off the day, a worker let Liam start up one of the groomers before they all headed up to smooth out the runs for the evening.  That ski in/ski out parking spot we snagged right by the groomers totally paid off!

And the good news, is all this rain has brought fresh snow to the mountains.  So we'll be heading up again this coming weekend.  It has become my favorite time as a family together.  I love seeing my boys confidence shine.  I also love the chairlift conversations, & the post ski snacks!  Hope you all have been enjoying Spring as much as us!

  1. Love these all so much! I have been on a mad hunt for these sort of trees near me but they seem to be few and far between. While there are a lot around I can't find anywhere that has a lot in one place. I have a vision that involves P and my wedding dress...it will happen!!!

  12. Wow, spring sounds like such an interesting time in Utah--as you mention, 70 degrees one day and then snow the next! How incredible that you were able to take gorgeous photos of the Cherry Blossom trees and the snow in the mountains all during the same week. You certainly know how to enjoy both kinds of weather to the fullest!
