37 Weeks (Bump #3)

Full term, eek!  This is a really big deal for me, because you need to be at least 37 weeks along to have a home birth.  We have hit that milestone!  I still don't anticipate baby coming particularly soon, but it's nice to know we'll be able to do it at home from this point on.  And he's still head down.  Everything is aligning nicely!  We even had our home visit with our midwife, which really truly made it all seem so soon... yet so far.  'Tis the end of pregnancy!

Total Weight Gain:  32 lbs.  On the scale, I'm officially sitting at the number I weighed when I delivered my first two boys.  Regardless of where I start, my body seems to always know how much weight gain is necessary for me.  I'm expecting to add another lb or two before Kane is born, but hoping not much more than that!

Symptoms:  Baby is still riding high (or Kane is just super long), so the ribs are uncomfortable.  Some nerve pain has also popped up this week which is just no good either.  Otherwise feeling great & really enjoying the end of this pregnancy!

Emotions:  Slightly more in check this week thankfully!  I am however, much more irritable, but I'm trying not to let my boys see that.  I want our finals days before baby arrives to be extra special.  Filled with joy & love... not a cranky mama!

Nesting:  I'm truly starting to love Kane's little corner in our master bedroom.  I think I will have it all organized by the end of the week, and I'll make sure to snap some pictures then.  I pulled out all our newborn cloth diapers and goodness are they tiny!  I still can't believe a little bum will be able to fit in them.  Eek!

House Update:  Oh ya know, just another delay.  Our permits weren't approved.  Changes need to be made.  Blah blah blah.  So I'm gonna go ahead and guess we are now at a late December/early January move in.  Womp womp.

Liam's Thoughts:  My neighbor drove Liam to swim lessons while we had our home visit with the midwife last week.  Apparently on the drive there, he told his friends (girls aged 6 & 8) all about how babies are born, including details about our midwife and planned home birth.  And according to my neighbor, it was surprisingly accurate!  He taught them more in a 10 minute car ride than they ever knew before.  I find his interest & comprehension of it all absolutely adorable!

Finn's Thoughts:  Ever since our home visit, Finn think that Rebecca (our midwife) will be coming over every day.  And he thinks baby is coming every day.  I can tell he knows that the end is near, but he'll be waiting a bit longer.

Affirmations:  At my blessingway, my friends made a banner with birth affirmations for me.  I'm excited to have some new mantras to focus on.  A few of my favorites are:

Each surge brings my baby to me.

Women all over the world are birthing with me.

I soften.  I open.  I release.

I birth with ease.

Are We Ready?  My midwife gave us most of the supplies we will need, except for the birthing tub.  She ordered a new one that is supposed to be the Cadillac of tubs, so we're waiting on that!  I also ordered myself some Tucks (those amazing witch hazel pads), because I knew that was one item that I would miss having from the hospital.  So as far as "things & supplies" go, yes we're ready!  However, mentally I don't feel as prepared as I did for Finn's birth.  I'm thrilled to be able to experience childbirth again, but also a little nervous.  Who knew that could happen the third time around!  But I know that I've set myself for the exact birth experience that I want, and I'm so looking forward to it all!

There are few big things ahead on my calendar, so I'm in no rush for baby's arrival.  I need to get through Liam's first day of Kindergarten next Wednesday.  Then that following Friday I'm hosting my book club (yep, at 39 weeks pregnant).  And then my mom doesn't arrive until the following Friday, just two days before my due date.  So Kane needs to keep growing until my mom arrives!  Hoping everything times out perfectly.  We shall see!

Liam's retelling of birthing and midwifery sounds incredible, i kind of want you to ask him and video it for us to see. Wishing you time to get through everything you need, comfort, rest and lots of healthy baby/mama vibes! Prayers, too!

  4. Yay - full term and head down..!! I'd have to agree, the more I do it (even though only 2x), the more I feel anxiety about l&d. I've been working on harnessing those feelings and using them to empower. Love affirmations and you've got some great ones. Such an exciting time..!! Praying Kane cooperates with your time line!! :)

  5. Glad to read you are basically all set! I think nerves are normal, each birth is different and you just never know what will transpire! But thats what makes a great birth story ;)
